Sense of reality

In my project 'A Sense of Reality’, I decided to focus on creating photography that revolves around distorting reality within natural landscapes and cityscapes. This theme caught my interest because I'm Inspired by the work of artists, who use experimental approaches to manipulate photographs of landscapes and urban environments. I admire their introduction of distortions through techniques like multiple exposures or the use of unexpected elements within the images. Typically, photographs of landscapes and cities are portrayed as the truth of the scene. However my intentions are to create images that appear to be authentic and real but actually present a false reality that I place upon the viewer. Creating this work has allowed me to look at my images in a different way and has encouraged me to look at the relationship between nature and the cityscapes to create and better understand photography in a sense of reality.

My research has shaped my images not only aesthetically but also theoretically. It has influenced the experimentation of my work in this project and has made me focus on the relationship between photography and what is reality. My work has developed into the creation of photomontages of two images combined, some contrasting each other and others related which worked well together. It is important to note that I wanted my audience to know that my images are fake but to also create a sense of realism causing them to question this at the same time. I have intentionally made the images the size of postcards. This decision is to give them a personal feel with a sense of a snapshot like a real postcard. By using a large white background bordering the images, I aim to draw the viewer in and make people take a closer look to see the false reality of the images which you wouldn't normally be able to see if you were just taking a glance or observing from a distance.
