A quote that has heaviliy inspired Jakes thinking and the way he creates his work is “in this vein, he prefers constructed reality over the plain realism that photography is usually expected to provide, and he argues that details of structures are more native to the camera than ‘soulful portraits’” by Georgia O'Carolan. This quote heavily influenced his work as he prefers the distorted/ constructed reality that images bring rather than the ‘plain realism’ that comes with truthful photos. He wanted this to become a part of his work to make his pieces be a constructed reality rather than the truth through mind altering manipulations and deception.
