Surveillance

These images reveal a layer hidden behind the reality of scenes, showcasing various additional aspects such as diverse subjects,  locations and the perspectives from which i capture them.  All taken from a perspective of real CCTV cameras, I wanted them to portray the act of photography through the means of capturing a still life image of a staged scene.

I feel my project looks at the theme of self identity in the digital age through the gaze of a CCTV camera. CCTV often shows the relationship between surveillance and visual culture, as it typically focuses on capturing images and videos that wouldn't normally be seen, instead of capturing a specific moment in time. I seek to highlight the relationship between surveillance and visual culture, in order to raise questions about the ways in which our lives are progressively being watched and documented. By drawing attention to the ways in which CCTV cameras capture our movements, I hope to encourage viewers to question the role that technology plays in shaping their daily lives, and to consider the ways in which we can protect our privacy in a world that is increasingly monitored and recorded.
